Land Stewards at The Granite Art Garden

​

A wonderful opportunity to live a homestead lifestyle and participate in educational programs at the Granite Art Garden located on a historic piece of land with much to offer in Downeast Maine. While helping with this non-profit, enjoy the serene property that was once an old quarry now transformed with beautiful stone artwork made of upcycled granite from the surrounding region. This position would have a trial season with option to extend into a long term lease agreement. Ideal candidates will have experience with large scale agriculture production and/or property management.  Open to couples and families!

 

Land perks available to stewards:

  • Well-nourished organic ¼ acre vegetable garden

Opportunities:

  • Organize/host community events

  • Educational & volunteer programs

 

Responsibilities:

  • Grounds maintenance 

  • Irrigation system 

  • Coordinating educational classes/demos

  • Upkeep of tools, equipment and facilities 

  • Managing interns/volunteers working with gardens, trails, wood, metal, multimedia, etc.

  • Implement forestry and farm animal programs (maintain structures for goats and chickens)

 

Desired skills:

  • Experience with organic gardening methods

  • Greenhouse management 

  • Knowledge of infrastructure systems and upkeep (e.g. plumbing, electrical, carpentry)

  • Mechanical knowledge (auto and power tool repairs)

  • Strong communication ability

  • Organizational skills 

  • Grant writing

  • Familiar with Google Drive

  • Strong managing skills

  • Ability to stay calm and kind when faced with challenges
